bjarki
is a visual artist from reykjavik, currently living and studying
in berlin and iceland. Before studying art he did technical draftmanship
at the reykjavik technical academy.
Recently his main focus is on drawing and photography, which is
extended into some video experimentation and collage works. The
drawing element has also been continued in books of several kinds,
mixing text and linear drawings in the trave02 series, and some
narrative texts together with found objects in the series called
bækur.
For the last year he has been working with different artists, either
in co-operation work, such as the investigation of visual culture
(summer '04, reykjavik, together with berglind j. hlynsdottir),
the sheep plug project for jason rhoades and paul mccarthy (kling
og bang gallery, reykjavik, summer '04, centre pompidou, paris,
feb '05) and participated in the "speak up" project in
zagreb last october, where nordic- and balkan artists came together
for working and exchanging ideas.
about the exhibition...:
Zeichnungen#2 is the second part of a drawing project i started
in december 2004 in reykjavik, where i made a flow of on-wall drawings
cover the whole exhibition space. The drawings start spontaniously
and i throw whatever comes to mind into them. With the first drawing
the theme for a
series is set, and they maintain a dialogue though often vaguely
obvious.
For me the drawings are spinning around each other, taking elements
from one another and their theme, looking at things, looking for
things is then continued in the peephole photographs.
